Eglise Saint-Pierre d’Ault et Beffroi Ecclésiastique

In this church you can see 700 years of history, from the Hundred Years War to the recent discovery of an ecclesiastical belfry, accorded by communal charter in 1382.

About

Saint-Pierre church, built with a chequered design with white stone and cut flint, typical of the region, is the only one in Picardy with an ecclesiastical belfry resulting from the extension of a communal charter dating back to 1382. Recently discovered, it is the third in France, after those in Dunkirk and Cambrai. It is a listed building.
The 14th century bell tower is an imposing quadrangular tower with a flat roof, gargoyles at all 4 corners and 3 bells. A slender watch tower stands on the top. It was built at the same time as the church and became an ecclesiastical belfry during the Hundred Years War (charter of 1382).
