Eglise Saint-Pierre d’Ault et Beffroi Ecclésiastique

About

Saint-Pierre church, built in the checkerboard pattern of white stone and cut flint typical of the region, is the only one in Picardy to have an ecclesiastical belfry, obtained by extending a communal charter dating from 1382. Recently discovered, it is the third largest in France, after Dunkirk and Cambrai. It is listed as a Monument Historique. The 14th-century bell tower is an imposing quadrangular tower with a platform at the end, gargoyles at all 4 corners and 3 bells. A slender watchtower stands at the top. Built with the church, it became an ecclesiastical belfry during the 100 Years' War, under the 1382 communal charter. Visit the outside of the church only
