Collégiale Saint Vulfran

Saint Vulfran collegiate church is a masterpiece of Picardy flamboyant Gothic architecture. Its remarkable façade flanked by 2 towers (with look-out posts) and its nave (in wood like the hull of a ship) remind us that Abbeville was a major sea port in the Middle Ages. Don't miss the altarpieces, ove

About

Construction of this building began in 1488, and although it remains unfinished, it is a masterpiece of Flamboyant Gothic art in Northern France. Its frontage is remarkable: rose window, gallery, Renaissance statues, two symmetrical towers just over 55m high topped by two lookout turrets. The central doorway is a fabulous witness to the work of the Picardy chestmakers illustrated by Renaissance doors. It was only in the 17th century that the nave was completed in Gothic style. The interior features a remarkable 17th century Last Judgement altarpiece and stained-glass windows by William Einten, of religious or biblical inspiration.
