Les planches ornithologiques de Reichenbach

German botanist and zoologist Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach (1793-1879) headed the Royal Museum of Natural History in Zwinger and founded the Dresden Botanical Garden. Renowned for his work on flora and fauna, he left over six thousand drawings, most of them in his own hand.
The Bibliothèque patrimoniale is fortunate enough to have preserved some of his publications, which include magnificent watercolor ornithological plates, enhanced with gum arabic: pigeons, hummingbirds and other curious birds seem to come to life... a real delight for young and old alike.
