Château de Long

About

Built from 1733 onwards, the château, nicknamed the "Folie de Buissy", was designed by Honoré-Charles de Buissy using plans by architect Charles-Etienne Briseux, inspired by his book L'Art de bâtir les maisons de campagnethe facades and roofs of the château, outbuildings, dovecote and greenhouses are listed as Monuments Historiques ? registered in 1944 and 2003.The château contains sculpted decor and paintings by Jean-Baptiste Huet. Some of the woodwork, exported to the USA, was recovered and installed in the Hôtel de Berny in Amiens (now a museum).During the restoration, the interior was furnished with collections of automata and antique clocks, thanks to the great industrial collector Roger Van Glabeke, who also re-launched the restoration of the estate in the 60's.Today, the château is inhabited and maintained by a couple of enthusiasts.
